From our Chief Operating Officer, Carol Beth Buchanan:
“When I was in 5th grade, I thought Michael Guthrie was the cutest boy in the class. We lost touch after elementary school, went to different high schools, and kept in touch only through mutual friends and the occasional Facebook post.
Fast forward to last weekend, at the Richmond SPCA Progressive Dinner, when I heard someone whisper my name as I walked past. Michael Guthrie.
Amid the hugs and catching up, I learned that he and his wife Lori Guthrie have twin teenage daughters, one healthy, and one not. Anna Kathryn has Prader Willi Syndrome, a complicated genetic syndrome which causes (among other symptoms) delayed cognitive and physical development, as well as severe OCD. Like my 5th grade romance with her dad, Anna Kathryn will never develop beyond elementary school.
As if these challenges weren’t enough, an April neck-fusion surgery has left Anna Kathryn paralyzed from the chest down and struggling to overcome a partially collapsed lung. As Mike and Lori told us the story of their family’s struggles, we wondered what we could do to help.
Her friends and family have begun a campaign to raise $10,000 for a specialized medical transport van for Anna Kathryn.
We were so touched by her story, that we at The Main Street Group are pledging to match the next $2500 donated to Anna Kathryn’s gofundme page. http://www.gofundme.com/8cytl0
If you can help with a donation, please do. If you believe in the power of prayer, please thank God for the blessings in your life, and ask him to send comfort and healing to the Guthrie family.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post and for any support you are able to offer.”
